YouTube science star Toby Hendy to demystify physics in free Dickson library talk

  • 1 May 2026
  • 6:00 PM - 7:30 PM
  • Dickson Library

Physicist, author and popular science communicator Toby Hendy, best known as the creator of the YouTube channel Tibees, will appear at Dickson Library for a free public event exploring science, storytelling and multidimensional thinking.

Drawing on ideas from her book A Guide to Making Friends in the Fourth Dimension, Hendy will discuss her creative process, her journey into science communication, and how complex concepts in physics and mathematics can be made accessible, engaging and fun. The talk will explore how storytelling and humour can help bridge the gap between academic science and everyday understanding.

The evening will feature a moderated conversation with Hendy, touching on her experience as a physicist turned international science communicator, followed by an audience Q&A. Attendees will then have the chance to meet Hendy informally, with a book signing to conclude the event.

Hendy is widely recognised for her YouTube channel Tibees, which has amassed more than 1.3 million subscribers worldwide. Her content blends physics, mathematics and personal reflection, breaking down intimidating ideas into thoughtful, approachable explanations that appeal to both seasoned science enthusiasts and newcomers alike.

Her book, A Guide to Making Friends in the Fourth Dimension, expands on this approach, inviting readers to think differently about dimensions, perception and the limits of human intuition. Through playful metaphors and clear explanations, Hendy encourages curiosity rather than fear when engaging with abstract ideas.
